The famous Royal Scots Greys will be participating in the commemoration celebrations of the Battle of Waterloo!
For the very first time, the prestigious Royal Scots Greys regiment will be taking part in a re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo, during the events being held to commemorate the Bicentenary of the Battle. The re-enactors playing the role of these famous cavalrymen will be riding out under the name of the Greys & Glory as they reinterpret the heroic acts of this legendary regiment.
For the first time in two hundred years, « Scotland forever! », the war cry of the most prestigious British cavalry regiment, will ring out across the plains of the battlefield of Waterloo.
Two centuries after the Battle, the impact that these 400 cavalrymen, mounted on their famous grey steeds, had at Waterloo has not been forgotten. Two centuries after the Battle, the role played at Waterloo by these 400 brave cavalrymen on their emblematic grey steeds has not been forgotten. The regiment, now an integral part of the British army and with so many military feats in its history, was looking to show its worth once again!
A trip back in time
It was on 18 June 1815 that the Royal Scots Greys, under the command of Major-General Ponsonby, charged the French infantry, which was very quickly decimated. Spurred on by their advances and notwithstanding heavy losses, the Royal Scots Greys were determined to inflict damage on the French army. Sergeant Ewart succeeded in capturing the eagle of the 45th infantry regiment, a heroic act that contributed greatly to the prestige of the regiment. The Imperial eagle has remained an integral element of the Royal Scots Greys insignia ever since.
On 18 and 19 June 2015, it will be the equally laudable GREYS & GLORY, a Scottish regiment of highly motivated cavalrymen, which will incarnate the military exploits of its illustrious predecessors during the re-enactments. Along with all of the re-enactors present next June, GREYS & GLORY will be paying close attention to historical authenticity, riding magnificent grey horses just like the ones that gave even Napoleon himself such a surprise.
Support the Scots Greys
« We are particularly proud to be participating in a re-enactment of such a scale! It would have been unimaginable to commemorate the Bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo without the Royal Scots Greys being represented », stated Jonathan Findlay of the Scots Greys enthusiastically.
However, raising such a regiment is an expensive business. If you would like to help the Greys & Glory lead the charge and arrive on the battlefield on their horses, you can participate in the collaborative fundraising campaign that they are organising by clicking here!
